Field workers, PCAs, crop consultants, visitors, etc. and their vehicles represent a moderate risk of broomrape seed movement. While individual debris loads are quite low, boots and vehicles can easily enter multiple fields and represent a risk of moving soil both short and long distances.
- Cleaning footwear with boot scrapers or brushes and spray with 8% v/v QAC sanitizer after leaving a “high risk” field.
- High Risk Fields: Very highly recommended for all field personnel exiting high risk fields.
- Designated Zone: Highly encouraged for all fields within the designated zone.
- Outside Designated Zone: Encouraged in all fields as a good field sanitation practice for soilborne pests and diseases.
- Outside Designated Zone: Strongly recommend operators outside the designated zone require this of field personnel entering fields after visiting other fields and regions.
Note: boot wash stations are not currently recommended as sanitizers in the wash water is likely to be quickly deactivated by soil debris. Clean sanitizer in spray bottles is likely more effective.
- Minimize driving vehicles into fields in order to reduce field soil accumulation on/in vehicles as mud and dust could contain broomrape seed.
- High Risk Fields: Recommend minimal vehicle entry into fields and encourage tire and undercarriage wash/sanitation before entering other fields.
- All Zones: Encourage operators in outside the designated zone to require visitors to clean vehicles before entering fields after having visited other fields and regions.
